FAQs

How long has Strettea Bakery been open?

The first ‘family and friends’ loaves started in 2020 whilst I was in the middle of a 2 year baking course and we’ve been going ever since! The course finished in 2021 and this was when I expanded beyond the usual group to the local area and markets.

Where is Strettea Bakery?

Strettea Bakery is based from a commercial unit in Pilsley. Our original concept was to expand and be at the bottom of our garden on Strettea Lane (hence the name!) but different factors meant that now we just had collections from the front of our house instead ☺️. We recently moved in December (only down the road to Shirland!) so the name is staying once again, even though the new 'Bread Shed' will actually be at Birkinstyle Lane.

How does the bakery work?

I am what would be classed as a ‘microbakery’ so everything is made on a smaller scale and currently only by myself. This limits the amounts I can produce, but small batches mean a higher attention to detail and lots of care!

Previously, the bakery ran as a weekly group of products which were pre ordered and then delivered/collected on a Thursday evening/Saturday morning.

This year, as I reopen and with the Bakery Bus now finished, this will move to a collection only service but not every product will have to be pre ordered, you can come and find us on a weekend and pick up a coffee and browse for your weekly bread and pastry fix if you'd prefer.

How do I order?

Orders can be placed through this website, just follow the links to the pre-order page and choose how you would like to collect. If you have any queries, just pop me a message on social media or email!

Where do we collect from?

Collection is from the 'Bread Shed' which the new address will be given in your confirmation email once you place your order. Collections from here are available from 9.30am until 4.30pm, or from the Bakery Bus from 10am-11.30am on the listed day.

What is the Bakery Bus?

I've been looking for suitable local premises since I started the bakery in early 2020 but nothing has really come up. Consider the Bakery Bus as a moving shop that I'm able to sell bread and pastries from without having a huge outlay to move the current bakery set up to somewhere new. Everything is baked first thing in the bakery unit and loaded into the specially fitted out bus before driving out, so you even keep that dreamy 'freshly baked' smell when you come on board!

Where will the Bakery Bus be located?

Locations will vary but my heart keeps us close to Shirland and Higham as this is where we started and I want to be available for my local and loyal customers. However, as I restart the business this year, new locations will likely be added as we go, depending on demand.

Do you deliver?

Due to the set up of the business changing with the Bakery Bus and my time still being limited in the bakery with our little one, deliveries will no longer be available as there just aren't the hours in the day to provide it. We've created two collection options instead which will give a little more flexibility.

Do you accept cash?

You can select the cash payment option, we just request that this is the right change if you are leaving it at the Bread Shed as this is a remote collection and we can't guarantee we will be available to give change.

How do I store and keep my products?

Everything is freshly baked literally hours before you collect but if you don't plan on eating it straight away, breads can be wrapped or sliced then frozen. Sweet or savoury buns can be popped in the microwave to soften if they're a few days old and any cheesecakes or tarts can be stored in the fridge for at least 2 days.

Who are your suppliers?

I like my products to be simple, and at the heart of that simplicity is making sure that the main ingredients are of high quality.
